Brasslands

A valid video file was found, or could not be loaded!

Brasslands is a character-driven feature documentary about the power of music to inform our identities, unite communities, and reach across political borders. 25 year old "master trumpeter" Dejan Petrovic returns to defend his championship title, as Demiran 'Cerimovi'c, a world-class Roma Gypsy trumpeter, struggles against deeply ingrained racism for the opportunity to make money for his family. Through it all, a fish-out-of-water American band plays to validate their very existence in front of a population still scarred by U.S. bombs dropped on Belgrade a decade ago. Brasslands chronicles this bizarre unfolding scene of colliding histories, political tension, and musical ecstasy.

89 YEAR-OLD Phyllis challenges the taboo of talking about death as she and her family make a surprising decision about end-of-life care. This beautiful, intimate short documentary provokes critical questions about how to grow old with dignity in America.

States of Grace
Winner of multiple audience awards, States of Grace intimately captures the profound transformation of a revered physician and her family in the wake of a life-changing accident. For Dr. Grace Dammann, a pioneering AIDS specialist who was honored by the Dalai Lama, a routine commute across the Golden Gate Bridge turned tragic when another driver crashed head on into her car. After seven weeks in a coma and a dozen surgeries, Grace miraculously awakened with her cognitive abilities intact, though her body was left shattered. States of Grace follows her return home to the Buddhist community where she and her partner Nancy "Fu" Schroeder live with their teenage daughter Sabrina, who was born with cerebral palsy.

Puzzles
As civil rights for LGBT and other minority groups are won violent backlashes have been known to increase. Today LGBT people are far more likely than any other minority group in the United States to be victimized by violent hate crimes. PUZZLES tells the story of a hate crime in a gay bar called Puzzles Lounge in New Bedford, MA when a teenager entered and brutally attacked its patrons. As a result two different worlds collide, a homophobic hate crime offender and his victims. Puzzles explores the correlation between American economic desperation and homophobia, intolerance, and, ultimately, violence.
